The Surface tablet is industrial design at its best. The design of the tablet is amazing and many people forgot all about the ipad. With all of the excitement that Surface has brought to the table, many people are wondering if Microsoft will be making their own Windows Phones too.
Microsoft has officially stated that they will not be making their own Windows Phone. Personally I know this was a jab to my gut. If the Surface tablet had a little brother that was a phone, I would by them both with no hesitation. Which brought me to Jonas Daehnert’s deviant art blog, he is the designer of the Surface Phone, Graphic and Sound Designer of the Windows Phone game ORB, and the other half of Palladium Power.
Jonas-Daehnert’s Surface Phone is inspired by the Surface tablet and utilizes industrial design to the fullest. The concept compliments the tablet by using minimal design while bringing elegance to the device. To put it simply, it is a breath-taking device that rivals the Lumia 900. Jonas stated that he “doesn’t care for specs” in the comments of is blog, and why should he. He has just given birth to an amazing Windows Phone Design. I hope that either the manufacturers or Microsoft is looking to bring this to life.
Sure many people have argued that that the plain black slab phone look is just boring, but they haven’t seen this design. The subtle use black and grey tones on the phone make it look refined and the use of the Windows 8 logo really brings unification that this device is for Windows Phone 8.
What do you think? Should the OEM’s look at this for inspiration for future devices?
This is just a concept and will probably never be built, but we can all dream can’t we?
